Filament Winding Technology for Predictable Safety

In industrial and commercial projects, fire water storage is a safety-critical component of planning. Requirements arise from building regulations, fire protection concepts and insurance provisions. At the same time, schedule and cost certainty are central priorities. Large-volume tanks must function reliably over the long term – under ground loads, traffic loads and varying operating conditions.

IBK Fibertec develops and manufactures filament-wound GRP tanks in the volume range of 15 to 100 m³ – designed on a project-specific basis and planned in accordance with relevant standards.

Calculated. Documented. Traceable.

Applications

Fire Water Storage

The expansion of energy and infrastructure projects – from data centres to battery storage facilities and logistics sites – places high demands on fire protection and supply security.

Fire water storage is an integral part of project planning and must function reliably over the long term.

  • Project-specific design in accordance with DIN 14230
  • Integration of draw-off equipment
  • Consideration of SLW 30 / SLW 60 for underground installation
  • Pump sump and dome solutions

Process and Cooling Water

  • Buffer storage
  • Industrial plants
  • Energy and infrastructure applications

Design takes into account medium, temperature and static loading.

Structural Approach: Filament Winding

Unlike isotropic materials, GRP in the filament winding process is built up in a load-oriented manner.

  • Circumferential fibre layers for internal pressure
  • Axial components to absorb bending moments
  • Local reinforcements at nozzles and bearing zones
  • Defined ring stiffeners where required

The result is a structurally efficient load-bearing structure with high ring stiffness and controllable deformation.

Durability and Material Behaviour

GRP is:

  • permanently corrosion-free
  • insensitive to standing moisture
  • resistant to chloride-containing environments
  • low-maintenance in long-term operation

Unlike coated steel, no regular corrosion protection cycles are required.
A service life of several decades is realistic with appropriate design and installation.

Normative Classification

Design is carried out on a project-specific basis taking into account relevant standards, including:

  • DIN 14230 – Fire water tanks
  • DIN EN 13121 – GRP tanks
  • DIN EN 1991 (Eurocode 1) – Actions
  • Traffic loads SLW 30 / SLW 60
  • Groundwater and uplift situations

Structural analyses consider:

  • Ground cover
  • Traffic loads
  • Groundwater uplift
  • Full and empty conditions
  • Storage and transport loads

Verification is carried out on an object-specific basis.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 2.0 – 4.0 m
  • Length: up to approx. 15 m
  • Volume: 15,000 – 100,000 litres
  • Above-ground or underground installation
  • Inspection opening
  • Connection flanges
  • Measurement nozzles
  • Ring stiffeners
  • Tank saddles

Every tank is designed on a project-specific basis.
